Blythewood, SC – Beginning May 1, 2012, the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) will no longer accept Form 450, Satisfaction of Lien, to remove a lien from a title record. The form will no longer be available on the agency website, through the warehouse or in DMV offices as of April 2, 2012.

“We’ve seen an increased number of fraud attempts using Form 450 during the past few months,” said Vehicle Services Director Lotte Devlin. “The form isn’t a secure way to prove the satisfaction of a lien and we want to do all we can to maintain the integrity of the process.”

To remove a lien from the title record, lien holders may release the lien electronically on electronic titles, complete the lien release on the front of the title document or submit a letter on company letterhead. Lien holders that choose to submit a letter should include the following information:

Owner’s Name

Vehicle Identification Number

Title Number

Lien Release Date

Signature of Authorized Company Representative.

“Car Men” details the touching and occasionally hilarious story of how the Myers men created a car business that’s known all across America for its successful out-of-the-box thinking – not to mention its off-kilter TV commercials, featuring such quirky characters as Uncle Frank and Chainsaw Charlie.

And just announced! The Winston Salem ABC affiliate, ABC45, and the Winston Salem My TV affiliate, My48, have both agreed to show the television edition of the film “Car Men”.

The schedule is as follows:

ARLINGTON, TX (Dec. 2, 2011) – Effective immediately, Keith Whann is stepping down as the General Counsel to the National Independent Automobile Dealers Association (NIADA). Whann has served as General Counsel to NIADA since 1995, and in 2002 received the Ring of Honor award, the association’s highest non-dealer commendation.

“I have been blessed to work with NIADA these last 16 years,” stated Keith Whann, “and I consider it an honor to have represented their interests being the voice of dealers as NIADA’s General Counsel for as long as I have.”

Keith fulfilled members’ needs for legislative and regulatory education and training throughout his involvement with the association. For years, he presented dealer compliance seminars across the country, which later evolved into pioneering on-demand and live webcasts through NIADA.TV. More recently, Whann’s “Car Counselor’s TARP” (Together Automotive Retailing Prospers) program brought lenders and dealers together at a time when funding was difficult to find. His “Dealer Tech 2.0″ series stresses the importance of social media interaction for dealers.

Keith has been instrumental in representing the interests of car dealers in Washington, DC. He has participated as an industry expert in all recent FTC roundtable sessions, as well as meeting with various members of Congress, White House staff, the Department of Defense, Small Business Administration, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Keith for over thirteen years, and I truly appreciate the contributions he has made to NIADA and the industry as a whole,” stated Michael Linn, NIADA CEO. “Keith and I have created some ground-breaking innovations, such as the NIADA.TV network. I personally look forward to working with him on industry related projects in the future.”

“On behalf of the Board of Directors and our dealer members,” continued Linn, “I would like to express my deep appreciation for his dedication and loyalty to NIADA and we wish him continued success in his ongoing ventures.”

About NIADA

The National Independent Automobile Dealers Association (niada.com (http://www.niada.com)) has represented the used motor vehicle industry since 1946. NIADA assists its members in becoming more successful and is the industry’s legislative representative for protecting dealer and consumer interests. The association consistently generates valuable industry education and information, along with services and benefits designed to prepare members for an ever-changing marketplace. As a consumer-friendly association, automotive consumer information can be found at autoconsumer.tv (http://www.autoconsumer.tv).

About Keith Whann

Keith Whann has served the automotive industry for more than 27 years. Starting as the Assistant Attorney General for Ohio, Keith later formed the law firm Whann and Associates. Keith served as General Counsel for the National Independent Automobile Dealers Association since 1995 and currently is the President and CEO of Columbus Fair Auto Auction. Keith founded Auttr.com, a social network and inventory portal and in 2010 founded Whanntech, a technology company that develops and promotes technology solutions for the automobile industry. Keith is recognized as an industry expert and represents the interests of the automobile industry on Capitol Hill and has participated in each of the FTC roundtable sessions in 2011. Keith is recognized as the industry’s Car Counselor and can be contacted through keithwhann.com (http://www.keithwhann.com), facebook.com/keithwhann, and twitter @keithwhann.

While I am not a Veteran, I am proud to solute those of you who are and those currently serving the United States of America around the globe. Thank you for all you do to keep Americans safe and to keep America great.

A great Veteran we recently lost was CBS’ Andy Rooney, known more recently for his sometime cantankerous comments at the end of the 60 Minutes program. Mr. Rooney is an American hero. While I’ve never met the man, I am honored to be able to call him a Sigma Chi Fraternity brother.

It is my understanding that Mr. Rooney grew-up in Albany, NY. After being drafted into the US Army in 1941, Rooney began his career in newspapers while reporting as a correspondent for the military newspaper Stars and Stripes.

He won a Bronze Star for his D-Day coverage at Normandy and was one of the first Americans to enter the liberated Buchenwald concentration camp.

CIADA would like to honor Mr. Rooney and all the family of veterans and those currently serving. We ask that you make this an everyday tribute, not just a Novermer 11th tribute.
